Carbon Reduction Plan

Commitment to achieving Net Zero

ea Consulting Group Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: January 2022 – December 2022

Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.

We are a low carbon company with a target of becoming Net Carbon neutral by 2030.

We started to collect our emissions data in the calendar year 2022.

January 2022 – December 2022 is our first reporting year and as a result both our baseline and current emission data is identical, until the next reporting period which will be based on data from January 2023 – December 2023.

We calculated our emissions using the Business Carbon Calculator powered by Normative which provides emissions calculations by Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 categorisation. The Business Carbon Calculator follows the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the widely used international protocol for carbon accounting. The calculator uses science-based emissions data and a combination of business spending and activities to calculate company emissions and was recommended to us via our SME climate hub membership.

Scope 1 emissions data does not apply to ea Consulting Group Ltd as our office is leased; we therefore have no direct control over source(s) of emissions, and we do not own any company vehicles.

ea Consulting Group is a rapidly growing business. There is a projected headcount growth over the next 5 years of approximately 300 members of staff. Therefore, a carbon intensity factor per person will be the key metric to monitor in terms of carbon reduction. To calculate the intensity factor per person we have taken the headcount at the end of the period 1st January 2022 and 31st December 2022 and recorded this as 36 people.

Baseline year emissions:  January 2022 – December 2022 is our first reporting year and as a result both our baseline and current emission data will be identical, until the next reporting period which will be based on data from January 2023 – December 2023.

Emissions reduction targets

We have recently set out our first carbon reduction targets for 2023 onwards following our baseline emissions calculation for the calendar year 2022. We are actively implementing the carbon reduction initiatives as set out in the carbon reduction projects section of this document, to meet our Net Zero ambition.

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets:

  1. We will strive to reach Net Zero by 2030
  1. We will implement carbon offsetting initiatives (funding climate solutions that help to reduce or remove emissions) for any carbon that we cannot remove.
  1. Our baseline set a carbon intensity factor of 1.1 tonnes per person which allows us to track our reduction initiatives over time as the company grows. From our baseline we are targeting a 15% reduction by 2025.

We have signed the SME Climate Commitment and are participating in the United Nation’s Race to Zero campaign, which commits us to:

• Halving our greenhouse gas emissions before 2030

• Achieving net zero emissions before 2050, and

• Reporting on a yearly basis to the SME Climate Hub to demonstrate progress

We aim to exceed these commitments.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been implemented following our baseline emission calculation (calendar year 2022).

  1. We have formed an internal Green Team. Our Green Team Champions are creating information and training to share with our team members to help them reduce their carbon footprint both in and outside of work. They are also responsible for rolling out new carbon reduction initiatives and monitoring and publishing our progress towards net zero.
  2. We are offsetting any carbon that we can’t remove by funding climate solutions that will help to reduce or remove emissions.  Although not counted towards our offsetting we are also planting trees for each job placement that we make and to celebrate work anniversaries with a view to making a positive climate impact for the future. View our forest and climate projects here: ea Change | Ecologi
  3. At Christmas we will plant 5 trees for each client and send e-christmas cards, eliminating paper greetings.
  4. We have implemented optional Meat Free Monday and have gained significant buy-in from our team.
  5. We have implemented a Cycle to work scheme.
  6. Increased flexible working, allowing more working from home with some colleagues now working fully remote and eliminating the daily commute.
  7. We have introduced two community days per team member per year which can be used on social value initiatives. Team members can use this time to work on sustainability projects.
  8. We only choose new suppliers who have excellent environmental credentials.
  9. We are talking to our office landlords about how they can help us improve our carbon emissions.

In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:

Launch a salary sacrifice electric car scheme providing a more affordable solution for staff to move to using an electric vehicle.

Achieve the 14001 Environmental Management ISO accreditation.

New life for phones and laptops – where laptops are no longer needed for business use but are in good condition, these can either be purchased by our employees or are donated to charity.

Enhance our waste management process to maximise recycling in our leased offices to reduce general waste.

Continue to look at ways of reducing single-use plastic and waste in the office e.g. providing sustainable lunch boxes to allow staff to use when purchasing lunch from food outlets to reduce waste.

Moving to a new office space which uses renewable energy for heat and power.

Becoming a B-Corporation certified company.

Supporting client transition to sustainable working. Encouraging and supporting clients to work sustainably and flexibly to improve employee commuting emissions.

Continue implementing successful remote working policies.

Improving carbon emission reporting accuracy.

Advise our existing suppliers of our initiatives and encourage them to take similar actions.
